Coffeeville Elementary School Library Fundraiser (Success!)

"When I got my library card, that's when my life began." -Rita Mae Brown

UPDATE: 5/22/15

Thanks to you, Kids Need to Read is able to fill the library at Coffeeville Elementary in Coffeeville, Mississippi, with brand new fiction and non-fiction books for the next school year! And due to your generosity, Kids Need to Read will also have enough funds to send each student a Highlights for Children Magazine to take home with them for this summer!

Once again, we are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support of our special initiatives to help get books into the hands of deserving kids here at home and around the world.

The teachers and students at Coffeeville created a card to say thank you for supporting their school and making it possible to "dream with our eyes open!"

For the second year, we are celebrating National Library Week by helping an elementary school library in need. Together with our friends at Kids Need to Read, we are committing 10% of all Out of Print online sales to help fully fund an application from the Coffeeville Elementary School to stock its library with new books.

Coffeeville Elementary is a public school located in Coffeeville, Mississippi. The library serves approximately 400 students (grades pre-K through 7th) from households earning at or below the national poverty rate.

Fewer than 1,000 books are stocked on the shelves and many of these are damaged, worn and missing pages. The school has not had a new book budget for the past two years.

Student teacher Meagin Carver reached out to Kids Need to Read for help because “libraries allow imaginations to run free, introduce us to new experiences and give access to knowledge and enjoyment." Ms. Carter wants her school to have a library that inspires and fascinates its students. To do that it first needs proper books and lots of them.

We're excited to help. Libraries are made great thanks to the people who run them and the books and resources that they offer. Please help us spread the word to anyone you think would be interested and keep checking back as we get closer to reaching our goal.
